FACTS ABOUT OMANYALA
Ferdinand Omanyala Omurwa is a Kenyan sprinter who specialises in the 200 metres and 100 metres races. He has a nickname of " The Beast". He is currently the African record holder and 8th fastest man of all-time in the 100 metres after clocking a time of 9.77 on 18th September 2021 in Nairobi.
He was born on 2nd January 1996 in Nairobi, Kenya. He has a weight of 1.75 metres and 83 kilograms.
Omurwa was born in Hamisi as the third son of Dishon and Adelaide Omurwa, though the family settled in Tongaren
soon After. He has five brothers in his family and his parents ensured they undergone education.
He was raised in Bungoma and he is a luhya by tribe which is an ethnic community in western part of Kenya.
Ferdinand joined Friends School Kamusinga in his secondary education and later joined University of Nairobi for his tertiary education.
While in Friends School Kamusinga, he was part of rugby team and he ensured they achieved great success in their competitions. However, Kenya sevens Team Under 20( U20) invited him to join them after secondary school but that didn't happen. Since trials were not done.
He had a goal of taking part in Kenya rugby but he missed an opportunity in Kenya Sevens Rugby Team. So he decided to try new interests. He resulted to athletics where he began as a local athlete and he proceeded well where he won almost all his races.
Duncan Ayiemba was keen with his sprinting skills and he was ready to nurture it. He achieved more local victories and successes that made him to be selected to represent Kenya National Team for 2017 World relays in Bahamas.
However, he came 7th in the maiden International race. He was unable to participate in the World Games Unversiade in Taiwan where he had been scheduled to compete.
His athletic career began when he was a kid, and he developed a passion for participating in various sports. Before
becoming a sprinter, he played Rugby at the University of Nairobi. He made history at the Tokyo Olympics , which were postponed the previous year because of the Covid-19 crisis.
He became the first Kenyan to compete in the semi-finals in the 100m sprint. The 10 second time he ran there became the
new national standard. For the first time in Olympic history, he made it for the 100m
semi-final in 2021. Ferdinand Omanyala's athletics ban after testing positive for a prohibited substance in August
2017, he was given a 14-month ban by the Kenya Anti-Doping Agency (ADKA). It was also determined to restrain his coach, Duncan, for a period of two years for the same offence. He was also outlawed from taking part in any sporting activity
by the Athletics Kenya (AK) governing body.
He prepared even harder during the ban period, and t he discipline paid off after returning in 2018. In 2019, he was picked to accompany the Olympics team two times. But unluckily, he was
not selected since the prohibition between him and Athletic Kenya was not over yet.
Ferdinand Omanyala is the fastest man in Africa. He defended the best for last, winning the Kip Keino Classic at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, Kenya, with 9.77 seconds , becoming the fastest African sprinter in the 100m and breaking the Kenyan 100m National record for the fifth time.
Ferdinand Omanyala's wife Laventa and Ferdinand met for the first time in 2016 while participating for their respective firms in a sporting event in Nakuru. They later met again in December and began corresponding. The couple has been together for over five years.
They marked their sixth anniversary on March 23, 2022. The couple recently welcomed a child, Quinton Finn Omanyala.
His mother is his most fascinated supporter . She is desirous about her son's venture and sterns him to the
end. When the media interviewed his mother, she exhibited her self-trust in his Olympic successes and posed to bring his preferred dishes with him when he arrived at the airport. Ferdinand Omanyala's height,The Kenyan sprinter is currently 1.75 metres tall.
